The King of the bushes
This old pal here has been with me for over a decade now, on May 2022 we will celebrate fourteen years of fellowship to be precise.
He claims to be the King of the bushes and he definitely deserves it.
Since the first day, I brought him home from a rescue cat’s shelter, when he was a sick, cute 2 months kitten in desperate need of medical care, I fell in love with his noble and royal bearing.
Together we’ve passed through colds, and bronchitis, and antibiotics, and homeopathy, and clinics.
Always side by side, always respecting each other.
Growing up, due to all the diseases he had as a kitten, he developed a rare allergy to mosquito bites so that every year he gets wounded on his nose and on the top of his ears, by scratching the bites.
As a matter of fact, he keeps on being a special cat, in need of special care. But he’s so lucky to have a special family taking care of him.
If animals could speak, the dog would be a blundering outspoken fellow; but the cat would have the rare grace of never saying a word too much.
Mark Twain
I’ve learned that the most precious present a cat can give you, is choosing each time to come back home to you, after wandering in the neighborhood and beyond. Because this means you are “home” to him.
Isn’t there something more beautiful than meaning so much for a living creature?
It is fairly straightforward: till you don’t live with a cat you cannot realize there is an infatuated cat person inside of you.
I remember the first time I went to the cat shelter: finding some extra time during the summer of 2008 I decided to work as a volunteer for National Animal Rescue in Italy. After one month, and after a lifetime spent with a dog always by my side, I found myself literally bewitched by this cute little kitten, who was so weak that could barely stay on his legs.
After bringing him to the vet, I brought him home to take good and loving care of him, but after a while, when he started being better, it was too late: he had already put his joyful spell on me so that I could not bring him back to the shelter to be adopted.
It was at that moment that our life together began, and I am so happy it did.
I love you pal ❤️🐈
